Yesterday I had my first day off (we get one a week, mine is Tuesdays). So I sleep-in a little bit and then shower, get dressed, etc. and go drop off my laundry (that's how you have to do it here, no self laundry, but its free) and then I ride the shuttle bus across this massive base complex, past former Palaces of Saddam and what used to be the Baghdad Zoo, to go to the larger PX in order to buy a lamp. I need it for my room, because it has no windows and the lights are up in the loft and I'm downstairs and I one of my roommates works the night shift and refuses to do anything but sleep the rest off the time. Not to mention the fact that he flys off the handle and goes ballistic at any little thing that might wake him.
Anyway, I need a lamp see, but they were all sold out, after a 45 min bus ride there. The next two small PXs were sold out too! When I finally found a lamp it was about 3 in the afternoon and it was at a small locally owned shop only about a ten minute walk away. Doesn't that just suck! My first day off----wasted! So I went back to my room, set up my lamp and then watched Family Guy: Blue Harvest that I bought for $3 at a "hajji movie (i.e. pirated copy) shop"
